Liferiders
Travis Shinn and Jeremy Danger recently returned from the Kiehl’s 5th annual Liferide, a twelve-day, cross country motorcycle ride to raise money for amFAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.
This year’s ride took place August 2-13, from Milwaukee to New York City, with stops to host “Celebrate Liferide” fundraising events in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland along the way. The finale was held in NYC, where Kiehl’s hosted multiple fundraisers and invited supporters to attend the dedication of the AIDS Memorial Quilt on Governor’s Island. This was the biggest event of its kind held in New York in over two decades, and included a ceremonial Reading of the Names.
Kiehl’s brought Travis and Jeremy along to document the ride, the riders, and the road.
In the past 5 years, Kiehl’s Liferiders have traveled over 15,000 miles and donated $1,025,000 to amFAR. This year there were 14 riders in all, including Kiehl’s president Chris Salgardo (@KiehlsPrez) and amFAR CEO Kevin Frost (@amfar.)
Travis & Jeremy, both riders themselves, were recruited by the Kiehl’s team on the first Liferide. Travis says he is “humbled and grateful” to have been a part of this event from the beginning. In addition to being launched 20 feet into the air whilst inner-tubing on Lake George, the best part of the trip was meeting many people who have been affected by AIDS in some way, and who all want to help.
